Hayley attended the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and graduated with a degree in Earth & Environmental Science in 2018. As an undergraduate, she was part of several research efforts exploring different facets of geochemistry. Her research gave her opportunities to travel to different states and countries for sample collection and wet lab work, and also to present her work at some of the world’s largest conferences. This influenced her decision to pursue geochemistry as a career path. Hayley also took part in several undergraduate outreach efforts and groups: the Society of Physics Students, the UCLA Astronomical Society, Women in the Physical Sciences, Women in Physics & Astronomy Diversifying Mathematics & Physics, and the Center for Diverse Leadership in Science. After graduation, Hayley continued to work at UCLA with Dr. Tripati & CDLS as a lab assistant to gain more experience, and also as a Museum Guide at Griffith Observatory to hone her skills as a science communicator. In Fall 2020, she will begin her doctoral geochemistry program, again at UCLA. She hopes to keep working at the Observatory to spread the love of astronomy to a public audience. In her spare time, Hayley enjoys hiking, backpacking & camping, long-distance running, a good novel or film, amateur astronomy, and most importantly: coffee.
